Activities in Montenegro                                 Pictures of Montenegro

Hicking

Much of the countryside provides magnificent opportunities for walking and trekking, with trails varying from easy to challenging. In particular, on the Durmitor massif numerous peaks over 2,200 m are accesible without the use of special equipment, and the general area has 60 km of marked paths, 20 km of which are cleared. In Biogradska Gora, access roads to Mount Bjelasica are intersected by mountain paths. One of these routes runs from Goles through Zdrijelo where it enters the park; another leads from Mojkovac through Vragodo. A mountain path blazed long ago from Mojkovac via Lanizte first leads to Katunina
(a small cluster of mountain huts) and the hay fields of Strugova and Jarceva Strana and then on to the national park and Bjelasica.
For further suggestions in the Bjelasica Komovi region, look for the invaluable 'Green Paths' trekking map produced in spring 2002 on the initiative of the Montenegro Office of the Organization for security and Co-operation in Europe, in collaboration with the association "International Friends of Nature", the Norwegian government and the Siemens Group of Companies. Walking possibilities in other areas of  Montenegro are boundless and a variety can be found through whole Montenegro.

Mountaineering

A considerable portion of the mountaineering transveral, CT-1, runs through the Biograska Gora National Park. A total of 120 km in length, it begins in Verusa and and continues through Komovo, Tresnjevik and Lisa, skirting the slopes of Kljuc, past Raskrsnica, Vranjak to Biogradska Lake and on to Mojkovac and Sinjavina, then Njegovude and finally Zabljak.
A carefull detailed, professionally compiled guide is Durmitor and the Tara Canyon, written by mountaineer Branislav Cerovic and published by the park's shop at Crno Jerzero (Black Lake). Climbs to each of Durmitor's main peaks are featured, with special detail given to Bobotov kuk, Savin kuk, Crvena Greda, Meded and Planinica.
There are also excellent opportunities for speleology. For furher information, contact

Visiting Museums

Museums are underfunded and by no means always adhere to fixed opening hours. As magister Martinovic in Kotor reflected: "It is always the key: the key is always the question"
. At presents it is always wisest to check locally with the listed Montenegro tourists offices who are represented in all main town centres.

Shopping hours

Shops are generally open from 08.00-21.00 on Mondays till Saterdays, although food shops often open earlier and may open on Sundays as well. Larger supermarkets are often opened on Sunday afternoons. In tourist centres, shops frequently stay open untill midnight during high season
.
