Montenegro, for its size, has of quite amazing diversity on climate. The influence of sea and the
mountainous
landscape together on a small area gave Montenegro various kinds of different "climates" with noticeable difference.
The coast...
The
narrow coast belt enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with log dry summers
and short mild winters. Average July maximum temperatures are around
28ºC with a high approaching 30ºC; average annual sunshine
is over 2.500 hours with a summer average of 300+ hours a per month
- or 10 hours a day. Winter averages are 12,5ºC and 5,5ºC.
November is generally the wettest month.
The central plain...
The central plain is colder in the winter and warmer
in the summer than the coast. Podgorica averages a January temperature
of 5ºC and a July temperature 26.5ºC. The maximum can reach
up to 40ºC and the minimum -10ºC.
The mountain area...
The High karst mountain area consist of plains at around 1.700 Meter
rising to peaks around 2.000 Meter. The climate is sub-alpine with
cold snowy winters, up to 5m in the mountains, and a moderate summers
averaging 270 hours of sunshine per month. Winter maximum temperatures
are around 3ºC and minimums around -6ºC . In the summer
months it goes from 23ºC to 9ºC .
Globally whole Montenegro is indexed on the Koppen scale (based on temperature and precipitation) as a Bs Climate. The B reffering to an hot dry climate and the little S reffering to dry seasons in the summer with more then 70 % of the precipitation that falls in the winter.
