Hidden among olive groves, rugged cliffs and the crystal-clear waters of the Budva Riviera, Drobni Pijesak, Crvena Glavica and Roho Beach are three beautiful coastal escapes that many visitors still overlook.
Located near Sveti Stefan, these beaches offer turquoise Adriatic water, Mediterranean vegetation, pebbled shores and dramatic coastal scenery. Although they are not completely undiscovered, they generally feel smaller, quieter and more intimate than the major urban beaches around Budva.
Each beach has its own character. Drobni Pijesak is a sheltered natural bay surrounded by greenery, Crvena Glavica is a collection of coves beneath distinctive reddish cliffs, while Roho Beach combines Adriatic scenery with a more stylish and atmospheric beach setting. Together, they reveal a calmer and more scenic side of the Budva Riviera.
A Quieter Side of the Budva Riviera
The Budva Riviera is home to some of Montenegro’s best-known beaches. During July and August, many of these places become lively destinations filled with beach clubs, restaurants, sunbeds and visitors from across the world.
Drobni Pijesak, Crvena Glavica and Roho Beach offer a different experience.
Their smaller size and more secluded locations create a stronger connection with the surrounding landscape. Instead of long promenades and dense urban development, visitors encounter rocky slopes, olive trees, Mediterranean greenery and uninterrupted views across the Adriatic.
The beaches can still become busy during the peak summer season, particularly around midday. However, arriving early in the morning, visiting later in the afternoon or travelling outside July and August can provide a much calmer experience.
Drobni Pijesak: A Sheltered Cove Beneath the Cliffs
Drobni Pijesak is one of the most attractive small bays on the Budva Riviera. It lies between Reževići and Sveti Stefan, hidden below steep green slopes and surrounded by olive trees and rugged Mediterranean vegetation.

Its name means “fine sand”, although the shoreline is mainly covered with small, pale golden pebbles. Together with the clear emerald and turquoise water, these pebbles give the bay its warm and distinctive appearance.
The sheltered position usually creates pleasant conditions for swimming. The water is often exceptionally clear, making Drobni Pijesak a good location for snorkelling and exploring the rocky edges of the bay.
Visitors can relax on the beach, swim in the calm Adriatic water or enjoy food and drinks at the local beach facilities. Although the presence of sunbeds and hospitality services makes the beach comfortable, the surrounding cliffs and greenery preserve its natural character.
The road towards Drobni Pijesak is narrow, winding and steep in places. Drivers should proceed carefully, particularly when vehicles approach from the opposite direction. Parking can be limited during the summer, so arriving earlier in the day is strongly recommended.
Crvena Glavica: Red Cliffs and Hidden Coves
Crvena Glavica is located close to the famous peninsula of Sveti Stefan. The name refers to the reddish colour of the surrounding rocks and soil, which creates a striking contrast with the deep blue and turquoise Adriatic Sea.
Rather than one continuous beach, Crvena Glavica consists of several smaller coves, rocky sections and pebbled areas connected by paths and coastal terraces.

This varied landscape makes the area particularly interesting for visitors who enjoy exploring. One cove may offer a sheltered swimming spot, while another provides open views across the sea or a quiet place beneath the cliffs.
The water is clear and inviting, while the combination of red stone, green vegetation and blue sea makes Crvena Glavica one of the most photogenic coastal locations near Sveti Stefan.
Some sections offer organised beach facilities, while others retain a more natural appearance. This allows visitors to choose between greater comfort and a quieter corner of the coast.
Suitable footwear is recommended when moving between the coves, as some paths and rocky surfaces may be uneven or slippery.
Roho Beach: Adriatic Style and Sunset Atmosphere
Roho Beach lies within the wider coastal area of Crvena Glavica. It combines clear water, small pebbles, rocky terraces and dramatic views towards the open Adriatic.

Compared with the more natural sections of Crvena Glavica, Roho has a more elegant and atmospheric beach character. Visitors come not only to swim and sunbathe, but also to enjoy the setting, music, sea breeze and changing colours of the coastline.
The beach is especially attractive in the late afternoon. As the sun moves lower, warm light reaches the surrounding rocks and the water begins to reflect golden and orange tones.
Roho can become livelier around sunset and during the busiest weeks of summer. Nevertheless, its compact setting and surrounding cliffs give it a more intimate feeling than the larger beaches near Budva.
It is a good choice for visitors looking for a balance between beautiful natural scenery and a comfortable, stylish beach experience.
Visiting All Three Beaches
Because all three beaches are situated along the Budva Riviera near Sveti Stefan, they can be combined into a scenic coastal itinerary.
Drobni Pijesak is best enjoyed as a peaceful bay for swimming and relaxation. Crvena Glavica offers several coves to explore, while Roho Beach is particularly attractive later in the day and around sunset.
Trying to visit all three in only a few hours may feel rushed. A better option is to choose one or two beaches for a full day or visit them on separate days while exploring the wider Sveti Stefan area.
Nearby places worth combining with the beaches include Sveti Stefan, Miločer Park, Pržno, Queen’s Beach and the viewpoints along the Budva coastal road.
Access and Practical Information
All three beaches can be reached from the Budva and Sveti Stefan area, but access conditions differ.
The roads leading towards some beaches may be narrow, steep or busy during summer. Parking is limited in several locations and may be paid or connected to local beach facilities.
Visitors should bring drinking water, sun protection and suitable footwear. Water shoes can also be useful because the shoreline may contain pebbles, rocks or sea urchins.
During peak summer, arriving before the busiest part of the day makes parking easier and provides a more peaceful atmosphere.

Visitors should respect private property, follow local access signs and avoid leaving rubbish behind. The beauty of these smaller coastal locations depends on responsible tourism and respect for the surrounding landscape.
Discover Three Different Sides of the Adriatic
Drobni Pijesak, Crvena Glavica and Roho Beach may be located close to one another, but each offers a different coastal experience.
Drobni Pijesak is a green and sheltered natural bay. Crvena Glavica is defined by red cliffs, rocky paths and a collection of small coves. Roho Beach adds an elegant and atmospheric setting with beautiful late-afternoon light.
For travellers looking beyond Montenegro’s largest and busiest beaches, these three locations offer clear water, impressive scenery and a more intimate way to experience the Budva Riviera.
